ABOUT SA DRAGONERA BLAVA

Where Science and Nature Converge for Marine Regeneration.

What We Do

At Sa Dragonera Blava, we engage in rigorous scientific research to monitor and improve the health of marine life. We also run educational programs designed to inspire and inform the public about the importance of marine conservation. Our community projects encourage local involvement and provide hands-on experiences in marine protection efforts.

Our Unique Approach

What sets Sa Dragonera Blava apart is our holistic approach to marine regeneration. We integrate scientific research with community-driven conservation, ensuring that every project not only aids in ecological recovery but also strengthens community ties to the marine environment. This dual focus on science and community makes our work particularly impactful.

Our Core Values

Transparency, collaboration, and innovation are the core values that guide every facet of our operations. We believe in open communication with the community and amongst our team to foster trust and effective collaboration. Innovation drives us to find sustainable solutions to environmental challenges, ensuring the long-term health of Dragonera's marine ecosystems.

Conservation Milestones:

  • 2019: Launch of the Sa Dragonera Marine Protection Initiative. Initial efforts focused on establishing protected zones, covering an initial area of 5 square kilometers essential for endangered marine species.

  • 2020: With the introduction of marine patrols and advanced monitoring systems, illegal fishing activities were significantly reduced, allowing for the expansion of the protected area to 10 square kilometers.

  • 2021: The adoption of artificial reefs and restoration projects enhanced habitat complexity, aiding in the recovery of biodiversity. This led to a further increase in the protected area to 20 square kilometers.

  • 2022: Strengthened local and international partnerships provided additional funding and resources, leading to the implementation of comprehensive marine ecosystem health assessments. The protected area grew to 25 square kilometers.

  • 2023: Community engagement programs were amplified, involving local schools and volunteer groups in conservation activities, contributing to a better-informed public and further expansion of the conservation area to 35 square kilometers.

  • 2024: Sa Dragonera was designated as a model for conservation success, achieving a total of 38 square kilometers of protected area, thanks to effective management practices and sustainable tourism integration.
